Across meadows, forest, and valleys – the Hornbach-Trualb-Borderland route runs on varied paths over 48 km through the southwest of the region.
The bike tour starts from Hornbach. In Hornbach, a detour to Hornbach Monastery and the Historama museum is worthwhile. To “warm up,” the bike path first leads leisurely past meadows with water buffalo before the first climb begins. Once at the top, you are rewarded with views over wide green fields and the next descent. With a bit of luck, you might catch a glimpse of a pheasant. Via Riedelberg and Vinningen, you reach the Imsbacherhof. Here, a nice seating area with a view of the Palatinate Forest invites you to rest. Past the St. Wendelinus Chapel near Trulben, the bike tour leads through the Trualb valley to France. After crossing the border at Walschbronn, the Weckersburg castle ruins rise up. Afterwards, it goes back to Hornbach.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate behavior in nature
• Travel considerately – Always act with foresight, friendliness, and consideration towards everyone you meet on the way. This is especially true on service roads where winemakers, farmers, and foresters work even on weekends.
• Picnic & trash – Remember a trash bag for the way and take the waste back home with you. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
• Nature protection – Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are out in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing the rhythm of nocturnal animals.
Author’s recommendation
Visit the Historama at the monastery in Hornbach. Here, where the mysticism of the sacred place is still palpable today, you can dive deep into the history at multimedia stations, among other things.
The “Historama Kloster Hornbach” is a multimedia museum and tells about Saint Pirminius and the importance of the monastery in the Middle Ages.
Visit the Weckersburg castle ruins in Walschbronn.

Hotel Kloster HornbachSafety information
Our cycling routes often run on paths that we share with others. We therefore ask for always considerate and friendly behavior. Winemakers, farmers and foresters use the service roads through fields, forests and vineyards for their daily work (also on weekends) and therefore always have priority. Due to work deployments and/or weather conditions, these paths may also be more heavily soiled at times. Particular caution is also advised when cycling on the (mostly quiet and lightly trafficked) roads in and around the Palatinate villages.
