The original chapel, completed in 1806, dates back to a chapel from the 6th to 7th century. In the early 1900s, the chapel shows significant structural damage. The derelict choir is demolished. A hailstorm on May 12, 1912, causes considerable damage to the chapel, which is repaired in 1913. In 1936, a bell tower is added to the east side. The completed chapel is blown up by the German Wehrmacht in 1939 for strategic reasons. Efforts to rebuild the chapel after the war fail multiple times until the chapel association finally decides in 1979 to make the reconstruction its main task. On April 14, 1984, construction can finally begin. On August 25, 1985, the chapel is consecrated by Bishop Anton Schlembach of Speyer.
At the chapel, there is this very beautiful old cross along with two figures. They could be the remnants of a Lotharingian cross, which occasionally exists in this area.
A window in the chapel is dedicated to St. Wendelin. The scene refers to the legend that St. Wendelin, who, although learned and of royal descent, chose a life of poverty and prayer, came to the area of Blies and Saar in search of a suitable location. There, he was employed as a herdsman, unaware of his high origin. Later, his lord built him a cell near the Saarland town of St. Wendel, which is named after him.
