The Biosphere Route circles the southern part of the Palatinate Forest Biosphere Reserve from Dahn as a circular route, between the Wieslauter in the east, the Sauer in the south, and the small streams Fischbach and Moosbach in the west and north. The Biosphere Route uses these four stream valleys as convenient paths but must overcome their watersheds in two climbs, which take place on quiet forest and woodland paths without any motor traffic. The entire circuit is characterized by a mix of dense forests and open valley meadows with embedded villages.
The 35-kilometer circular route is characterized by an interplay of dense forests and open valley meadows with quietly embedded villages. The Palatinate Forest/North Vosges Biosphere Reserve is the first UNESCO-recognized cross-border biosphere reserve in Europe. Lavish sandstone formations shape the landscape as much as the numerous rock castles. With 80% of the route on forest and farm roads, the Biosphere Route offers one of the most beautiful insights into this majestic wooded landscape. In and around the Fischbach Biosphere House, the interrelationships of nature within the nature park can be experienced, for example on the treetop path with information and adventure stations at an airy height.
Including detours to the Dahner PWV Hut "Im Schneiderfeld", the "Hohle Felsen," and the "Christus Church" in Rumbach, the route is about 40 km.
Requirement: Everyday cycling strength sufficient, the two climbs may need pushing if necessary.
Route guidance:

- 5.5 km urban sections without cycle paths
- No use of roads outside settlements

UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
Always behave in a forward-looking, friendly, and considerate manner towards everyone you meet on the way.
Pay attention to nature, do not destroy any plants, and always stay on the paths.
Bring a rubbish bag for the way and take your waste back home.
Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.
Observe all path closures for your own safety. Even on weekends.
Park only in designated parking areas. Leave space for emergency routes and agricultural machinery.
Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.
Author’s recommendation
Two climbs challenge the cyclists, but both are neither steep nor long and can be managed by everyone when approached from the right direction: between the Wieslauter and the Sauer, there are about 80 meters of altitude gain each over approximately 2 km with up to 4% gradient. The second crest through the valleys of Fischbach and Moosbach has about 100 meters of altitude gain on the noticeable steep stretches. These are spread over 5 km from Dahn and only 1.5 km from Fischbach. Those who want to take the Biosphere Route with less effort should ride the circular route from Dahn via the Neudahn Pond to Fischbach and take the return trip via Rumbach.
Places to eat along the route: in local restaurants in Dahn, Dahn-Reichenbach, Bruchweiler-Bärenbach, Rumbach, Fischbach, as well as the PWV hut in Dahn.

Safety information
Our cycling routes often run on paths where we are guests with our bikes and share these paths with others. We therefore ask for always considerate and friendly behavior. Winegrowers, farmers, and foresters use the farm roads through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work (also on weekends) and always have priority. Because of work operations and/or weather conditions, these paths can sometimes be dirtier. Special caution is also required when cycling on the (usually quiet and little trafficked) roads in and around the Palatinate villages.

Roadbook
From the train station, the route leads through the street "Im Kaltenbächel", along the German-French Pamina Cycle Path Lautertal to Bruchweiler-Bärenbach and Bundenthal/train station.
After the train station, turn right at the country road and now cycle on the Sauertal Cycle Path via Rumbach (a detour to the Christus Church with its frescoes is worthwhile here) to Fischbach. At the entrance of the town, turn right to the Palatinate Forest/North Vosges Biosphere House with its unique treetop path at a height of 18-35 meters.
From the Biosphere House, return to the town entrance and through the main street to the junction of Dahner Street. Now the route continues straight ahead through Dahner Street and later on a small road through the Wolfsägertal Nature Reserve. At the end of the valley, follow a farm road along Fischbrunner Valley, up the mountain to the crossroads on the north side of the Großer Mückenkopf.
Those who want to see the Hohle Felsen Natural Monument turn right here and cycle about 800 meters up the mountain on the private road to the hollow rocks and back the same way. At the crossroads, all others turn left and descend on the private road into the Moosbachtal Nature Reserve, passing the junction to the Dahner Hut 500 m away (managed, opening times apply), which invites you to stop and continue to the Neudahn Pond (from here a ten-minute walk to the Neudahn Castle Ruins ).
After the Neudahn Pond, turn right and follow the German-French Pamina Cycle Path Lautertal back to the starting point of the route in Dahn.
