Today you switch at the start of the 2nd stage to the South Palatinate cycle path. Along seemingly endless tobacco fields and historic tobacco sheds, the South Palatinate cycle path leads you to Herxheim and further parallel to the L542 to Offenbach. With a bit of luck, you can experience magnificent white stork populations up close here! Cycle past the town hall and cross the L509 at the town exit. Then continue on the L542 over the water-rich Queich meadows to Dreihof Essingen. Following the South Palatinate cycle path further, you next reach Bornheim, where you ride past the stork museum and the Saubrunnen on the southern town entrance path and shortly after Bornheim cross the B272 country road. From Bornheim via Essingen and Hochstadt you cycle northwest on a farm road past the sports field to Kleinfischlingen and then on to Großfischlingen. The next station is the romantic vintner's village Venningen. From here, the gently rolling cycle path leads you along the country road through the fertile plains of the Gäu to Kirrweiler. From Kirrweiler, you then continue to Maikammer, where you will also find some dining options. Directly at the entrance to the town, after the Aral gas station, turn right onto the cycle path. It runs directly behind the gas station. From here you have a wonderful view of the cradle of democracy, Hambach Castle. In the town center, the South Palatinate cycle path ends and you turn left at the intersection towards Edenkoben and then immediately right at the next street. You are now on the German Wine Route cycle path (Traube) towards today's stage destination Siebeldingen. From here you still have about 15 kilometers ahead of you. Simply continue following the German Wine Route cycle path, passing the beautiful wine villages of Rhodt unter Rietburg, Hainfeld, Burrweiler, Gleisweiler to Siebeldingen. Along the way, you pass numerous wineries; perhaps there will be an opportunity to sample a sip or two of Palatinate wine. Or take a break now and then at one of the rest or picnic areas and enjoy the typical Palatinate surroundings along the German Wine Route.
