Welcome to Offenbach an der Queich, a charming local community in the district of Southern Wine Route in Rhineland-Palatinate. First mentioned in 784, Offenbach an der Queich has been the seat of the local administrative association since January 1, 1972. The association has nearly 13,000 residents, spread across the local communities of Bornheim, Essingen, Hochstadt, and Offenbach an der Queich.
Bornheim is home to the Rhineland-Palatinate Stork Center, which offers comprehensive information about storks and the Queich meadow irrigation. Essingen can look back on over 7,000 years of settlement history, with the Wendelinus Chapel and its wall paintings from the 15th century serving as evidence. Explore the historic town center of Offenbach with its old half-timbered houses, the book and village fountain, as well as the marketplace. The Queichtal Museum offers a fascinating insight into local history. In Hochstadt, the "Houschder Winzerturm" amidst the vineyards offers a wonderful view to the Odenwald or Black Forest on clear days.
The local communities regularly invite you to festivities such as the "Weifeschdl mit Sti(e)l", the Wine and Knot Festival, Kerwen, fairs, and Christmas markets. A winter highlight is "Christmas in the Crib Village of Bornheim", where over 100 lovingly decorated cribs invite visitors to marvel throughout the village from December to early January.
A unique feature is the QUEICHWIESEN, which were declared "Traditional Irrigation in Europe" as an "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 2023. This centuries-old agricultural cultural technique shapes the meadows along the Queich and has survived in only a few places in Germany.
