In the Pfronten Vils valley, you sometimes still have to expect cars up to the Gasthof Vilstalsäge, then you continue uphill on agricultural and forest roads. Passing the Kälberhofalp, you reach the Tannheimer Valley west of Schattwald, considered one of the most beautiful high valleys of the Northern Alps. Just a few minutes from Lumberg near Grän, you can reward yourself for the kilometers cycled so far by taking the Grän mountain railway up to the Füssen Jöchle and enjoying the summit panorama of the Allgäu Alps from the terrace of the Sonnenalm. After a blessed long descent through the Enge and Achtal valleys, the Vils valley awaits you again at Pfronten-Steinach, where you roll almost flat north of the Vils on the Zirmenweg towards Ulrichsbrücke and then through the Lech valley back to Füssen.

    Author’s recommendation

You can shorten the section between Pfronten-Steinach and the Ulrichsbrücke with your bike using the Außerfernbahn. Timetable: www.erlebnisbahn.at/ausserfernbahn

From Füssen towards Weißensee and follow the bike signs to the right along the lake towards Pfronten. Through Pfronten and slightly uphill on Vilstalstraße through the Vils valley into the Tannheimer Valley. Similar to the signed Allgäu cycling route via Schattwald and Zöblen to Tannheim and briefly up into the “Enge.” Now go down the main road to Pfronten and continue to Vils. Through the Ranz valley, you reach Musau and over Ziegelwies back to the starting point Füssen.
