This varied circular tour connects three countries and showcases the scenic diversity of the Raab Nature Park. The starting point is Neumarkt an der Raab in southern Burgenland. The route initially follows the Raab River at a leisurely pace before continuing through small villages and rolling hills into Slovenia. The traditional villages in the border region, the tranquil forest sections, and the panoramic ridges around Grad and Martinje are particularly charming. A cultural highlight of the tour is Grad Castle, the largest castle in Slovenia. After several climbs, the route rewards cyclists with a long descent through Hungary back to Austria. This tour is especially suitable for recreational cyclists who enjoy riding away from busy roads and want to discover the unique features of the border region.

    Author’s recommendation

A short detour to Grad Castle in Slovenia is highly recommended – the largest castle in the country, offering impressive views across the border region. Bring plenty of drinks for the tour, as there are only a few places to stop for refreshments along the route. Due to the sometimes steep climbs and descents, a bicycle with good gears is recommended.

    Roadbook

The starting point is the canoe launch at the Raab bridge in Neumarkt an der Raab. The route leads west along the cycle path on the left bank of the Raab River. Follow the signs for the "3-Länder-Radweg" (Three-Country Cycle Path). At St. Martin an der Raab, go under the B57 highway. After a short section on the right side of the highway, turn left and go under the highway again. Continue to Doiber, turn right at the first intersection, and then immediately left again. After about five kilometers, you will reach the Jostmühle mill in Windisch Minihof. Turn left immediately after the mill into the village. Turn right at the Gasthaus Hirtenfelder inn and continue via Minihof-Liebau to Tauka. In Tauka, follow the old highway. After about two kilometers, there is a steep climb to the former border crossing into Slovenia at the former Gasthaus Mertschnigg inn. After crossing the border, keep left, cycle through a small wooded area, and turn left again at the next intersection. Continue to Kuzma. In the village center, turn right briefly and then continue straight ahead, passing the Gaberszek Inn. The route continues through Gornji Slaveci and Dolnji Slaveci to the intersection before Motovilci. Turn towards Grad there. After a short climb through the woods in Grad, turn right at the first intersection. A steep and winding climb follows. Continue along the ridge towards Boreča and Martinje. In the wooded section after Grad, turn left first and then right at the second junction towards Martinje. In Martinje, after leaving the village, turn left towards the former Slovenia-Hungary border crossing. From there, the route is mostly downhill to Alsószölnök. Turn left in the village center. After the former Austria-Hungary border crossing, return to Neumarkt an der Raab. In the village center, turn right towards Jennersdorf and return to the starting point at the Raab bridge.
