Beginner's tip: The Lahngangkogel in the Kaiserau
The idyllic Kaiserau near Admont is the starting point for the ski tour to the Lahngangkogel. The ski tour to the 1700-metre-high mountain is particularly popular with beginners and is also popular when avalanche conditions are somewhat tense. Apart from the ski tour, the Kaiserau is always worth a trip, the plateau nestles idyllically against the striking peaks of the Gesäuseberge and, apart from the ski touring possibilities, also offers a family-friendly lift and perfectly prepared cross-country ski trails.

Ski tours in the Haller Mauern
The Haller Mauern in the north of the region are a popular area for experienced ski tourers. The Mittagskogel is often tackled via the Natterriegel here. The jagged rock formations and views of the surrounding mountains from the summit ridge make this route particularly attractive. The ski tour to the Hexenturm, a neighbouring peak of the Mittagkogel, is similarly demanding and just as attractive in terms of scenery. You can still do this route in spring. The final, very long descent over deep powder snow slopes is particularly beautiful.
More tips and destinations
It should already be clear that a trip to the Gesäuse is more than worthwhile for ski touring fans. But Gesäuse is also an interesting destination away from firn and powder. Whether it's a bad weather day or just because, you should definitely pay a visit to the town of Admont. Here you can visit the monastery and the monastery library, one of the most important cultural sites in Styria.
