    Safety information

The ascent from the Admonter Hut to the Mittagskogel is very steep (dangerous due to risk of falling). Put on crampons early enough! If there is ice, possibly use mountaineering crampons or skip the ascent!

    Roadbook

From the parking lot at Buchauer Sattel, follow the marked path to the (often also open in winter) Grabneralm (approx. 1.5 hours).
Continue on the marked path northwest to the Admonter Warte (another 1.5 hours).
The onward path to Mittagskogel (1 hour) is steep (with cable protections in summer).
On the marked trail 634 (the markings will not be visible in winter), very steep up to the Mittagskogel.
Secure walking is required here due to risk of falling.
Crampons are often necessary for this ascent. (If it is icy, the ascent is only possible with mountaineering crampons. Then you must consider whether a safe ski descent is possible at all.)
From the Mittagskogel (only in good visibility!) ski right into a hollow. The hollow turns right and you can ski down the steep Rauchkar to the Großer Seeboden.
The orientation of the Rauchkar is southeast; if there is firn snow, you should not be too late.

Ascent from Seeboden = 2 options:
    1. Ascent from the east end of the Seeboden; steep north-facing 200 vertical meters to Ochsenscharte and possibly another 200 vertical meters near the ridge to the summit of Grabnerstein. Descent from Grabnerstein to the south to Zilmkogel,
then down to the right to Grabneralm (beware of avalanche danger)
or keep left towards Himmelreich, then traverse right under steep slopes until you reach the ascent path between Buchauer Sattel and Grabneralm.

    2. Ascent westwards over the Großer Seeboden and up to the Admonter Warte (200 vertical meters), then descent via Grabneralm to Buchauer Sattel on the known ascent path.

The descent from Grabneralm follows the ascent path (= mostly forest road). In good snow conditions, it is possible to ski from Grabneralm (partly very steep) through sparse forest straight down to a forest road at 1000 m.
Then keep left and return to the starting point at Buchauer Sattel.
