Gorge Alpine - your next autumn adventure?

The Fee Gorge, which leads from Saas-Fee to Saas-Grund, impresses with its steep walls and wild rock formations. Accompanied by a mountain guide, you cross the gorge on via ferrata-like elements, past waterfalls, over suspension bridges, ladders and steel cables. The programme also includes a rapid Tyorlienne descent and an aerial tramway. The Gorge Alpine is definitely a new experience and not for the faint-hearted.

    Zählt zu den großartigsten Klettersteigen in meinem Portfolio. Landschaftlich herausragend. Schwierigkeitsgrad: höchstens D (subjektiv eher C-D); aber wegen der Gesamtlänge und der Herausforderung der riesigen Seilbrücke, die sicher nicht jedermanns Sache ist, vertretbar. Als Ösi sind wir ja Klettersteige vornehmlich im Kalk gewohnt, deshalb habe ich es ganz besonders genossen. Was wirklich sehr schön ist: man kann (mehr oder weniger) den gesamten Klettersteig "kletternd" bewältigen; also schön mit Händen und Füßen im Fels. Das Seil nur zur Sicherung. Der Abstieg ist nicht lang, erfordert aber im oberen Teil Aufmerksamkeit bei der Wegfindung und bis unten Konzentration. Unschwierig, aber stolpern darf man nicht! Der Zustiegsweg ist sehr gut markiert und kann eigentlich nicht verfehlt werden.

    Im Postauto von Saas Grund aus mit Ankunft beim Stausee um 9.30 Uhr an einem Montagmorgen waren wir praktisch alleine. Im Verlaufe des Tages begegneten wir jedoch mehreren grossen ausländischen Wandergruppen (30+ Leute), was uns doch überraschte. Auf dem Gipfel bei der Statue war es eng und sehr windig. Der Weg um den Stausee ist schön, breit und recht flach. Man teilt ihn mit Mountainbikes. Der Blick auf die italienische Seite vom Gipfel aus wird durch die hässlichen Gebäude/alte (?) Seilbahnen etwas getrübt und lohnt sich unserer Meinung nach nicht wirklich. Ein nächstes Mal würden wir nur etwa die Hälfte hochlaufen, denn von da aus hat man einen schönen Blick auf den Stausee.

    Man benötigt deutlich mehr Zeit für die Wanderung als hier und auf den Wegweisern angegeben. Statt der angegebenen 8 Stunden waren wir knapp 12 Stunden unterwegs. Wir haben nur kurze Pausen gemacht und sind normalerweise nur wenig langsamer als auf den Schildern angegeben. Daher empfehle ich sehr, die Wanderung an der Almagellerhütte statt der Almagelleralp zu beginnen.

Public transport

From the international airports of Zurich, Geneva, Basel Euro Airport, Milan, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, you have train connections to Visp. From there, you can take the Postbus (Bus 511 - direction Saas-Fee) every half hour directly to Saas-Fee/Saastal.

From Zurich, Geneva, Basel Euro Airport, and Milan airports, public transport takes about three hours.

Directions

Saas-Fee/Saastal can easily be reached by car from all directions, whether from Switzerland or abroad.

You can reach us via Bern via the Lötschberg car transport from the north. 

You come over the Furka Pass or the Furka car transport from the east.

From the south, you can reach us via the Simplon Pass or Simplon car transport, and from the west, you drive via Lausanne along the Rhône valley to Visp and towards Saas-Fee.

From Visp, drive south in the direction of Saas-Fee. At the "Killerhof" roundabout after Stalden, take the second exit towards Saas-Fee. In Saas-Grund, turn right after the church in the direction of Saas-Fee.
