Balcony Trail of the Susa Valley
Discover the Upper Susa Valley and its villages with a circular route made up of daily stages of different lengths and difficulties.
The Balcony Trail runs through the Upper Susa Valley, in the municipalities of Susa, Meana di Susa, Giaglione, Chiomonte, Gravere, Exilles, Salbertrand, Oulx, Bardonecchia, Sauze d’Oulx, Cesana Torinese, Claviere, Sauze di Cesana, and Sestriere, following the mid-altitude slopes and crossing multiple types of natural environments such as larch forests, Scots pine woods, maple ash forests up to reaching pastures and sometimes scree and high-altitude rocky environments. The central hubs of the entire route are the towns of Susa, Oulx, and Bardonecchia, reached by railways and served by public transport lines. From these major centers, it is possible to reach all other municipalities in the valley and potentially organize intermediate returns without completing the entire itinerary. The territory of the Upper Susa Valley as a whole offers a series of attractions and strengths from a hiking perspective, including the presence of numerous alpine huts connected to the Balcony Trail and other routes of local, regional, and international interest such as the GTA or the Glorious Repatriation of the Waldensians (GRV), the Franks' Trail (SF). The offerings for outdoor sports and recreational activities in the Susa Valley (kayaking, rafting, free ride, mountain biking, horseback riding, climbing, via ferrata, mountaineering, snowshoeing, ski touring, cross-country skiing) are extremely rich and diverse.
