Safety information
Hiking on natural paths and trails - Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves can cover unevenness, roots, stones or holes on the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may drop afterward. Especially in bad weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you find certain path sections impassable for you, you should avoid them. Despite the "unmistakable" marking of premium hiking trails, we recommend always carrying an appropriate hiking map for safety reasons so you can quickly reach a safe area in case of thunderstorms or emergencies. Observe path closures and detours strictly.
Danger situations - In an emergency, quick help is needed. And although mobile phones can send GPS signals, at classic rescue points, help usually arrives fastest. These are placed in locations easily accessible by rescue vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, head there and provide the number on the sign in your emergency call. This way, rescue workers will know exactly where to find you.
Tips and suggestions

Roadbook
We follow the hiking trail marked with the Kuckucksbähnel. The start is at the Kuckucksbahnhof in Elmstein.
The path first leads us along Bahnhofstraße, past the museum "Alte Samenklenge, House of Forestry and Forest Management" up to the Elmstein castle ruins above the village of Elmstein. The view of the pavilion opposite on the Rehfelsen and over Elmstein is impressive.
Next, we go to the rest area "Alte Schmelz" and the starting point "Rafting experience Legelbach." We keep left and cross the country road. Arriving on the other side of the street, we cross the small footbridge and keep left again (passing information board 1 of the rafting experience trail). The path continues along the Speyerbach – after about 400 m we turn right, where the path further leads us over the Ehrenfelsen to another viewpoint. Here you can now admire the Elmstein castle ruins from a distance. We continue following the KKB marking.
Now first enjoy the atmosphere of the mixed forest and ascend the mountain, first moderately, then a bit steeper. At the top, the Mirabellen bench at an open forest meadow invites you to rest before the path leads further to the Stamminger spring and to Iggelbach. On arrival in Iggelbach, there are opportunities to stop for refreshment or take a long rest at the Schützen-Hecke picnic area and enjoy the view of Iggelbach.
Before crossing the parking lot, you can make a short detour to the memorial.
After the parking lot, a path leads a little higher up to Kurzeneckkopf with its phenomenal view of the Palatinate Forest and Iggelbach. The path winds further along Kurzeneckkopf and later via a trail to the Ritterstein "Treffnix." Resting opportunities also await the hiker here. After the rest, it goes downhill again towards the starting point, but not without admiring and enjoying the natural monument "Hohe Buche," a stone formation, and the Heinrich-Weintz lime tree along the way.
If you want to take another break, you can do so shortly before the path leads back into Elmstein’s street at the Kobel bench.
Back at the visitor information center "Flößerei and Trift" (station), perhaps the old steam horse is already waiting for the journey home, panting, or the car parked nearby.
