Rock Buckthorn Nature Trail leads above ground and showcases geological features of the quarry as well as values of local fauna and flora. It was named after a shrub that grows nowhere else in Hungary in such a great abundance. Information boards along the trail present protected natural values of Fertő-Hanság National Park and the lookout points provide splendid views over Fertő Lake, the quarry and the site of the pan-European Picnic
Inside the quarry, in cave-like rooms both manmade and natural a multi-purpose theme park hides where visitors may learn about Leitha limestone and its utilization.
Millions of years ago the site of Fertőrákos was covered by the Pannonian Sea. Leitha limestone was formed from remains of marine animals with calcium carbonate skeleton or shell. Although it was used by the ancient Romans too, it was in the 19th century when mining was the most intensive. Some parts of the exhibition, such as the Hall of Stone Mining, the Hall of Stonecraft and a lapidarium, present how it was used throughout history.
The other major unit of the exhibition displays the paleontological history of the quarry. Besides vertebrate fossils of various size, the Hall of Miocene Sea features jaws of a Megalodon, reconstructions of pre-historic whales, sharks and dolphins.
One of the halls seats around 750 visitors as a venue with special acoustics and modern stage technology for theatre plays and concerts. Although seats are heated, warm clothes are recommended even in summer. The auditorium is handicap-accessible.
In bad weather conditions, visiting the outdoor area of the theme park may be restricted.
