Those seeking a sporting challenge are exactly right on the 230 km long Eifel-Höhen-Route. It lives up to its name: there are climbs – the 600-meter elevation mark is broken several times – and descents; sometimes very fast!
During the ride over the Eifel heights, you will repeatedly enjoy wonderful distant views. In the northern sections, you cycle through the Eifel National Park. The surroundings are as varied as the elevation profile: sometimes open highlands on the Dreiborner plain, sometimes dense coniferous forests around the Dahlemer Binz, sometimes narrow gorges like the juniper-covered Lampertstal, sometimes wide panoramic views into the High Fens. Whether the wild daffodil meadow in Hollerath or the reservoir landscape of Rursee, Urftsee, and Obersee – the view surprises around every corner. Occasionally getting off the bike is worth it, as along the Eifel-Höhen-Route there are numerous places to stop where regional specialties are served.
Highlights along the route:
- historic town/original centers Monschau, Blankenheim
- Monschau/The Red House
