During the walk on the Historic Village Route in Steinweiler, you will discover interesting, thoughtful, but also entertaining things that evoke memories, stimulate conversations, and remain in your mind.
When Emperor Otto gave his wife Adelheid the "Hof Steinwiläre in Speiergau" 1050 years ago, that was the historically documented birth of Steinweiler. The anniversary year 2018 was taken as an opportunity to depict the course of history in Steinweiler along a historic village route. At many stations, information boards point out the special features of these houses/way stations.
BE CAREFUL! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
Travel considerately - Always behave in a foresighted, friendly, and considerate manner towards everyone you meet on your way. This is especially important on agricultural roads where vintners, farmers, and foresters also work on weekends.
Keep dogs on a leash – Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

The historic village festival, which takes place every two years, brings old times to life. Old craftsmanship and culinary delights are presented here.
A break can be taken at the covered rest area Dreispitz (on Adelheitsweg) - catering is available here, for example, at the Regiomat of the Rosenhof wine and sparkling wine estate.

Roadbook
The village route starts at the community center, Hauptstr. 38. In the courtyard of the community center there is an overview board equipped with a QR code.
Diagonally opposite the community center, we stand in front of the former Catholic schoolhouse (Hauptstr. 25). Then it continues through Kirchgasse to the washing place at the Gailsbach. The path leads us back, we turn right into Kirchgasse and arrive at the Catholic parsonage (Kirchstr. 6), opposite the Catholic church (Kirchstr. 5). It continues on Kirchstraße to the former tannery, the Annahof (Kirchstr. 10). Further on, we reach the main street. Here we turn right to reach the washing place on the main street. Shortly after turning, on the other side is the old savings bank (Haupstr. 4). After the washing place opposite, the village mill on Klingbach stands out, which is a popular nesting site for storks. Crossing the main street, we discover a small path behind the mill. This leads to the washing place Obergasse. We now continue along the path and go left after a few meters between the houses until we reach Obergasse (alternatively, we could return from the washing place Obergasse to the main street, turn right until we reach Obergasse), where we go right to the inn "Zum Löwen" (Obergasse 42) and diagonally opposite, the oldest house in Steinweiler (Obergasse 29). We turn back and follow Obergasse until we turn right into Kreuzgasse (anyone who wishes can also take a look at the former "Gasthaus zum Bären" (Obergasse 4) shortly after the junction on the left before turning into Kreuzgasse). Right at the beginning on the right side is the old bakehouse (Kreuzgasse 4), shortly after the former smithy (Kreuzgasse 8) and opposite the former shoemaker's shop (Kreuzgasse 7). Continuing, on the right side are still the former brewery (Kreuzgasse 10) and the old mayor's estate (Kreuzgasse 14). Diagonally opposite we turn into Eisgasse, where immediately on the right is the former Protestant kindergarten (Eisgasse 4) and the former Protestant church (Eisgasse 6). We follow the course of Eisgasse and reach Kreuzgasse again, where on the right we can see the former Protestant schoolhouse (Kreuzgasse 15) as well as opposite the Protestant church (Kreuzgasse 20) and the three-sided farmyard (Kreuzgasse 22). We turn left into Kreuzgasse and follow its course. On the left side, after a few meters, is the former Raiffeisen warehouse and bank building (Kreuzgasse 31). When we reach Brotäckerstr., we go left and follow the street straight on, later straight into Hauptstr. There, immediately on the right at the intersection is the Napoleon column. Continuing along Hauptstr., on the left side is the new cemetery of Steinweiler. We return to the intersection and now follow Hauptstr. to the right. On the left side is the former brewery (Hauptstr. 84), on the right side the soap factory (Hauptstr. 77, Steinweiler soap manufactory). After a few meters, we turn left into Haselschußgasse, where on the right side we can still see the former dairy center (Haselschußgasse 4) as well as the inn "Zum Hirsch" (Haselschußgasse 12).
Either we follow a narrow path between the houses back to the main street, or we go back a few meters and turn left into the main street. This is how we get back to the starting point of the route.
If we still have stamina, we can now look at a few remaining highlights of this village route. We continue along Hauptstr. to the left. On the right side, we can soon see the old cemetery and the Catholic kindergarten (Hauptstr. 19). Now we continue following the course of Hauptstr. to the right, opposite the intersection, where we see the former bakery (Ringstr. 1). Further along Hauptstr., we first reach the inn "Zum Ochsen" (Hauptstr. 10) and then the old farmhouse (Obergasse 1). We can now follow the course of Hauptstr. back to the starting point of the route.
Anyone who wants to see another point of the Historic Village Route can visit the field cross near the covered "Rastplatz Dreispitz" on Billigheimer Weg (near Steinweiler train stop) and take a break there.
