St. Martin-Kath. Kirche Steinweiler

The first mention of a church in Steinweiler dates back to a document from Emperor Otto II in 982. Thus, it is one of the oldest churches in the Southern Palatinate. In the 15th century, it was remodeled. The first two stories of the church tower are evidence of this.
After Steinweiler burned down in the Thirty Years' War in 1622, the church was rebuilt a year later. The nave was reconstructed in 1765/66.

On October 3, 1895, the church caught fire again when flames spread from a nearby barn. It was then rebuilt from 1896 to 1897. The architect was church builder Wilhelm Schulte.

The interior is adorned with stencil paintings from the late 19th century. The church windows each feature a saint from the Fourteen Holy Helpers. Additionally, there is a baroque depiction of a Holy Helper on the south side, which was salvaged from the burning church during the Thirty Years' War. The windows and votive image remind one that Franconian settlers brought the veneration of the Fourteen Holy Helpers here after 1648, and since then, the Steinweiler church has been a place of pilgrimage.

Further decorations include various figures of saints on the walls, two side altars (dedicated to Mary and Joseph), as well as the wooden pulpit, the high altar, and the baptismal font. The organ dates from 1898. (Text source: Homepage Pfarrei Kandel)
