A foglalat alá kényelmesen befér a kulacs a jéghideg vizű Pes-kő-forrásnál. A vízre szükségünk is lesz, bármely irányba is haladunk: a fennsíkra vezető turistaút igen meredek és hosszú szakaszán - főleg nyáron - jelentős mennyiségű vizet fogunk elfogyasztani, lefelé pedig könnyen előfordulhat, hogy egészen Felsőtárkányig nem jutunk folyadékhoz.
A forrás szép völgyet vájó vízfolyást táplál. Vize a fennsíkon elnyelődő csapadékból táplálkozik. Mivel a fennsíktől dél felé vízzáró kőzetpászták futnak, melyek helyenként felszínre kerülnek, a víz ezeket elérve a felszínre tör. A völgyben szintén akkor találkozunk tükrével, amikor ilyen területre ér. A mészkő hátára jutva szinte azonnal a mélybe szivárog, és búvópatakként folytatja útját.
A forrás viszonylag megbízható - nagyon ritkán, csak igazán tartós és forró nyári szárazságok idején apad el, máskor számíthatunk rá.

- A Felsőtárkány, Fűtőház buszmegállóba kell érkezünk az egri buszokkal. Nyári időszakban, hétvégén szórványos buszközlekedés van Miskolc felől is.
- A felsőtárkányi kisvasút Varróház megállójából is indulhatunk.
