Romok az avarban
A csaknem 1 km hosszú, észak–déli lefutású tekeres-kői gerincet azonban nemcsak a kilátás miatt érdemes fölkeresni. Délkeleti csücske, a Rónya-bérc adott otthont egy őskori földvárunknak, amelynek határoló sáncait az értő szemek ma is fölfedezhetik. Bár régészeti leletek nem kerültek elő innen, a hely kiterjedése és magassága alapján a fénykorát a késő bronzkorra teszik.
A várrom része a Várak a Mátrában jelvényszerző mozgalomnak is.
Ha végigsétálunk a Tekeres-kő kisebb-nagyobb sziklákkal határolt ösvényén, az északi csücsökben, már az erdőbe érkezve újabb, de sokkal kisebb, viszont felismerhetőbb romra lelünk: egy régi kőkunyhó alapjait rejti az aljnövényzet.
Sziklatandem az Alföld peremén
A Tekeres-kő a szomszédos Holló-kő felől közelíthető meg könnyedén, jelzetlen ösvényeket követve. A Holló- és a Tekeres-kő tandemben alkotják a Mátra déli lejtőinek egyik legjobb kilátópontját, a kettőről együtt körpanorámát kapunk 500 méteres tengerszint feletti magasságból. A Holló-kő egyben kedvelt és legális sziklamászó hely is.
A térképeken is látható, hogy a két sziklasor egyenes vonal mentén törik le – ennek oka, hogy mindkettő ún. krioplanációs sziklataréj, azaz a jégkorszaki fagyok idején a megfagyó-felolvadó víz aprózó hatása által visszabontott kőtömb.
A Tekeres-kő agglomerátum tömbjeinek puhább, apróbb szemcséjű részei könnyebben pusztulnak, nagyobb, tömbösebb részei pedig ennek hatására helyenként összeborulnak, ezért a sziklasorban 30 kisebb barlangüreg ismert – köztük a mimállással keletkezett Terekes-kői-barlang.

- A Pálosvörösmart, templom buszmegállóból az Építők útján induljunk el, amely a Holló-kőre vezető P▲ jelzésű ösvényben folytatódik. A Holló-kő előtt ágazik le jobbra egy jelzetlen ösvény, amin eljuthatunk a Tekeres-kőre (2,4 km, 246 m szintemelkedés).
- A Mátrafüred, autóbusz-váróteremből a P és Z jelzésű turistaúton induljunk el, majd az útkereszteződésben forduljunk jobbra a P◼ jelzésű turistaútra. Pálosvörösmart határában a P▲ jelzésű ösvényen folytassuk az utat, amely a Holló-kőre vezet. A Holló-kő előtt jobbra kiágazó jelzetlen ösvényen jutunk el a Tekeres-kőre (6,1 km, 272 m szintemelkedés).
