Százhalombatta és Érd határában a legenda szerint Attila 125 ezer hun vitéz élén véres csatát vívott Matrinus római kormányzó légióival. A csatában elesett vitézeket itt hantolták el, egész sírdombokat építve tetemeik fölé. Mára az eredeti 122 halomból 91 található meg ezen a helyen. A hagyomány szerint erről a "száz halomról" kapta a nevét Százhalombatta.
A Sánc-hegy tetején feltárt földvárat Attila váraként is emlegetik. Bár az Érdi krónikákban és a régészeti feltárásokból a rézkori és bronzkori élet képe bontakozik ki :
"A Sánc-hegyen bronzkori (Kr.e. 1600 körüli) földvár nyomai láthatók. Az ember kihasználta a Duna közelségét, a löszdombok kínálta lehetőségeket. Sánccal és árokkal erősítették meg, földvárrá alakították. A sánc közel 300 m hosszú 150 m széles építmény. A sűrűn lakott, több száz évig fennállt településen az új házakat az előzőek romjaira építették. Később a rómaiak is őrtornyot tartottak itt fenn."

"Az Érdi-magaspart alámosott, függőleges falakkal törik le Ófalu ill. a Duna felé. A fennsík legmagasabb pontja a 177 méteres Kakukk-hegy Ófalu fölött, míg a 163 méteres Sánc-hegy a Duna fölött hívja fel magára a figyelmet. A magas partfalak védelmében együttesen fordulnak elő a keleti pusztai, sztyeppei növényfajok és a jégkorszak után hazánkba délről bevándorolt mediterrán növények."
Az Érdi-magaspartot 1985-ben védetté nyilvánították.
