„Pokoljáró” Lőrinc
Az – egyébként Ágasvárat és a hasznosi erődítményt is birtokló – Tari család a 14. században építette meg uradalmi központját itt, Tar határában. A család legismertebb tagja Tari Lőrinc, aki Luxemburgi Zsigmond (1387–1437) hű támogatója volt a trón megtartásáért folyó harcában. A király meghálálta szolgálatát: 1404-ben pohárnokmesteri rangot kapott, illetve Hont és Nógrád vármegyék főispánja lett. A rákövetkező években több zarándokúton vett részt. Egy ilyen során jutott el 1411-ben Írországba, a Szent Patrik-barlangba, amelyet annak kénes kigőzölgései miatt a pokol kapujának tartottak. Lőrinc huzamosabb időt töltött a barlangban, látomásai támadtak, amelyet a vele utazó jegyzőnek mondott tollba. Így kapta a „Pokoljáró” nevet.
Az elmúlás
Tari Lőrinc az udvarházon is jelentős átalakításokat végzett, mint ahogy később, a 15. század végén tették a Kompolthyak, akiknek kezébe a Tari család kihalásával került a várkastély. Az épület sorsát az Oszmán Birodalom 1552-es hadjárata pecsételte meg: ekkor vált a környék a Hódoltság részévé. Az 1560-as években már lerombolt erődítményként hivatkoznak a Tari család egykori udvarházára.

- A tari vasútállomásról a K+, majd a KL jelzésen érkezünk meg az egykori udvarházhoz (1,5 km, 36 m szintemelkedés).
Parking
- Taron a Petőfi út és a Kossuth út közti átkötőúton, a kálváriával szemben találunk parkolóhelyeket.
