Tar közelében, a Csevice-patak mentén találjuk a százéves fagyűjteményt, amelyet kutatási céllal hozott létre a botanikus Tuzson János.
Az itt látható fafajok közül említésre méltó a luc- és vörösfenyő mellett az erdei fenyő, az oregoni hamisciprus, a vöröstölgy, a jegenyefenyő, a balzsamfenyő, a Colorado-fenyő, a szürke duglászfenyő és a japán juhar. A szabadon látogatható gyűjtemény egyik legértékesebb példánya egy 1960 körül ültetett, hatalmas atlaszcédrus.
A fagyűjteményt dr. Tuzson János botanikus, egyetemi tanár hozta létre a Mátra lábánál fekvő Fenyvespusztán, amelyet 1925-ben vásárolt meg. Az erdőbirtokon kísérleti céllal fás növényeket telepített, elsősorban távoli országokból beszerzett örökzöldeket. Kutatásai során főként a fás növények szövettanával, növényföldrajzi és ősnövénytani kutatásokkal foglalkozott. Elsőként végzett szövettani összehasonlító vizsgálatokat az ipolytarnóci ősfenyő kovásodott fatörzsével kapcsolatban, amit az ő meghatározása alapján nevezték el Pinus tarnociensis-nek. Tuzson előszeretettel kísérletezgetett, termesztett gyógynövényeket is, vagy például rózsabokrokat ültetett, hogy rózsaolajat állítson elő - az utak mentén pompázó rózsabokrok ennek a nyomait őrzik.
A kert a II. világháború után az erdőgazdaság kezelésébe került, ekkor lucfenyővel, vörösfenyővel és szelídgesztenyével erdősítették az arborétumot. Fenyvespuszta manapság is az Egererdőhöz tartozik, területén erdei iskola is működik.

- Busszal érkezve a Tar, községháza megállónál szálljunk le.
- A Hatvan és Somoskőújfalu közötti közlekedő vonatról Tar állomásnál szálljunk le.

- A buszmegállótól a főúton indulunk a vonatállomás felé, majd a Szabadság utcán jobbra fordulunk. Innentől a K+ jelzést kell követni az arborétumig (4,6 km).
- A vonatállomástól a főutcán induljunk el a település felé. A Szabadság utcán forduljunk balra, innen a K+ jelzés vezet az arborétumhoz (4,7 km).
