Vydajte sa za krásnymi výhľadmi na jednu z najstarších kalvárií na Slovensku.
Rožňavská kalvária je jednou z najstarších na Slovensku a zároveň najstaršou pamiatkou svojho druhu v regióne Gemer. Situovaná je na južnom svahu vrchu historicky nazývaného Szölömál na ktorom sa, ako aj názov v preklade z maďarčiny prezrádza, kedysi pestovalo hrozno.
V roku 1741 ju dal postaviť rožňavský mešťan Jakub Steer. Stavba pôvodne so siedmimi zastaveniami – kaplnkami, sa v 19. storočí rozrástla na štrnásť zastavení s farebnými majolikovými reliéfmi. Najvyšší bod kalvárie tvorí kostol a samostatne stojaca zvonica, ktorá bola nedávno zrekonštruovaná. Z tohto miesta sa naskytá nádherný výhľad na mesto, kaňon rieky Slanej i planiny Slovenského krasu.
Directions
Prístup na vrchol kalvárie je možný len pešou chôdzou. Od mestskej radnice na Námestí baníkov sú to necelé dva kilometre, počas ktorých prekonáte 120 výškových metrov. Po zhruba poldruha kilometri sa ocitnete na parkovisku pod hvezdárňou, kde sa nachádza odpočívadlo, ako aj infopanel, na ktorom sa návštevníci dočítajú v slovenskom, maďarskom i anglickom jazyku zaujímavé informácie o kalvárii, od jej vzniku až po súčasnosť. Odtiaľto je to na vrchol kalvárie približne 10 minút stúpania. V tesnej blízkosti odpočívadla sa nachádza odstavná plocha vhodná na odparkovanie automobilu.
