The town church of St. Mauritius is located in the centre of Hausach
The village church, located far outside the town, had been the parish church for the Catholic parish of Hausach for centuries. After decades of legal disputes with the House of Fürstenberg over the cost of building the church, construction of a new church in the town centre finally began in the spring of 1892. The laying of the foundation stone attracted many visitors from all over the neighbourhood. Under the direction of the well-known architect Max Meckel from the archbishop's building office in Freiburg, a three-aisled vaulted basilica with transept and front tower was built by 1896. The church was consecrated and provisionally occupied on 18 December 1894. After completion of the interior work, it was solemnly consecrated on 16 June 1896 by the Auxiliary Bishop of Freiburg, Dr Justus Knecht. The striking neo-Gothic building with its red coloured sandstone exposed brickwork gave the Hausach townscape a completely new character. The church is open to visitors during the day.
