Slovenská ústredná hvezdáreň je kultúrno-osvetové zariadenie s celoslovenskou pôsobnosťou. Nájdete ju v Hurbanovskom parku.
Mimoriadne významnou udalosťou v dejinách astronómie na Slovensku bolo roku 1871 založenie jedného z prvých astrofyzikálnych observatórií v Európe – hvezdárne v Hurbanove.
Hvezdáreň je odborným, vzdelávacím a metodickým pracoviskom pre oblasť astronómie, koordinačným a výkonným pracoviskom pre špecializovanú pozorovateľskú, vedeckú, výskumnú, informačnú, dokumentačnú, metodickú a konzultačnú činnosť v oblasti astronómie a príbuzných vied.
Hlavnou náplňou hvezdárne je zhromažďovať, vedecky a odborne spracovávať poznatky z astronómie a príbuzných vied, za účelom ich sprístupňovania širokej verejnosti a súčasne koordinovať prácu všetkých hvezdární na Slovensku. Jej zameranie sa taktiež týka výroby a servisu prístrojov používaných v astronomickej oblasti. Návšteníci si môžu dohodnúť individuálne vstupy i hromadné vstupy do objektu v presne vyhradených časových rozpätiach.
Hvezdáreň organizuje taktiež astronomický krúžok, pomaturitné štúdium astronómie, astrofil či rôzne súťaže.
