44 hectares of lush greenery, with a nature trail that takes you to discover the oolite quarries and the northernmost holm oak in Europe
The Caproni forest extends for about 44 hectares along the western flank of Monte Stivo and is accessible from the Arcense hamlet of Mason. The area is named after the family of Gianni Caproni, an aeronautical engineer originally from Mason, who purchased this and other land and, by reclaiming and reforesting it, guaranteed work to dozens of families in the period between the two wars. The forest, now owned by the Municipality of Arco, has been redeveloped by the Environmental Conservation and Enhancement Service of the Autonomous Province of Trento, which has created a historical-naturalistic path that enhances both the fascinating environment of the quarries and the naturalistic profile of the entire area. Finally, from the point of view of flora, this is the northernmost holm oak in Europe.
