Das Museum ist untergebracht im Gewölbekeller des Vereinshauses, in dem sich früher das Amtsgefängnis und der herrschaftliche Fruchtspeicher befanden. Einen Schwerpunkt bilden die Beziehungen von Ettenheim zur Geschichte von Frankreich: Die Geschichte des Fürstbischofs Kardinal Louis René Edouard de Rohan, der durch die „Halsbandaffäre" im Vorfeld der französischen Revolution traurige Berühmtheit erlangte. Erläutert wird das Schicksal des Herzogs von Enghien, der auf Befehl von Napoleon Bonaparte aus Ettenheim entführt und in Vincennes bei Paris erschossen wurde. Zu den interessantesten Exponaten zählt eine Inkunabel des Ettenheimer Frühdruckers Heinrich Knoblochtzer aus dem Jahr 1478, eine von dem Kartographen Martin Waldseemüller 1513 hergestellte Karte des Oberrheins, eine orignalgetreue Nachbildung des „Halsbandes der Königin" und eine Fensterscheibe mit einem Liebesgedicht des Duc d'Enghien an seine Geliebte Charlotte de Rohan-Rochefort.
