Der idyllisch gelegene Frechensee befindet sich am nordwestlichen Rand des Naturschutzgebiets Osterseen inmitten der reizvollen Mischwälder südlich von Seeshaupt. Durch seine abgeschiedene Lage ist er ausschließlich zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad erreichbar. Ein direkter Zugang zu dem größtenteils von dichtem Schilf umgebenen See ist nur an seinem unbewachsenen Westufer möglich. Hier lockt eine Bank mit Blick über das blau-grün schimmernde Wasser zum Verweilen. Im Frechensee befinden sich außerdem zwei kleine Inseln - eine nahe des Westufers und eine nahe des Nordufers des Sees.
