Alternative route description: From the hiking parking lot at the southern edge of Grundwassersee, follow the Unterer Flurweg, which turns into a gravel forest road. After about 500 m, turn left and follow the path in the forest. It runs over gentle terrain waves through a beautiful mixed forest with impressive dead-ice holes of different sizes. Shortly afterwards, you reach the east shore of the idyllic Frechensee. After a short distance, leave the lake behind and follow the forest road towards Lauterbach. Along the way, turn west onto the wide path, a chestnut avenue towards Ellmann, then follow the road back to Seeshaupt. It gently winds past the school forest to Hohenberger Straße, which passes Ullrichsau and leads back to the parking lot.

A detour to the more accessible west shore of the Frechensee is worthwhile!

The large circuit around Frechensee starts at the station in Seeshaupt. For a short distance, it goes along the railway tracks through the town before almost completely leaving civilization behind. Quiet forest paths now lead gently rolling southward. On the section along Frechensee, walkers repeatedly catch breathtaking views of the picturesque lake through the trees. At the forest edge near the hamlet of Ellmann, the southernmost point of the route is reached. From there, wide gravel paths lead through the shady forest northwards and finally back to Seeshaupt along the road.
