The large loop around the Frechensee starts at the station in Seeshaupt. For a short stretch, it goes along the railway tracks through the town before you soon leave civilization almost completely behind. Quiet forest paths now lead slightly rolling towards the south. On the section along the Frechensee, walkers catch breathtaking views through the trees of the picturesque lake. Near the forest edge close to the hamlet of Ellmann, the southernmost point of the loop is finally reached. From here, it goes on wide gravel paths through the shady forest northwards and finally along the road back to Seeshaupt.
Author’s recommendation
A detour to the more easily accessible western shore of the Frechensee is worthwhile!

Alternative route description: From the hiking car park at the southern edge of the groundwater lake, follow the Lower Flurweg, which turns into a gravel forest road. After about 500 m, follow the path into the forest to the left. It runs over gentle terrain waves through a beautiful mixed forest with impressive dead ice holes of different sizes. Shortly thereafter, you reach the eastern shore of the idyllic Frechensee. After a short distance, leave the lake behind and follow the forest road towards Lauterbach. Along the way, turn west onto the wide path, a chestnut avenue towards Ellmann, and then follow the road to Seeshaupt. It leads in gentle bends past Schulwald to Hohenberger Straße, which passes Ullrichsau and leads back to the car park.
