Alternative route description: From the hiking parking lot at the southern edge of the Grundwassersee, follow the Unterer Flurweg, which turns into a gravel forest road. After about 500 m, turn left and follow the path into the forest. It runs over gentle terrain waves through a beautiful mixed forest with impressive dead ice holes of various sizes. Shortly afterward, you reach the east shore of Frechensee. You leave the lake behind for a short distance, turn right after another 500 m off the path to Lauterbacher Mühle and return to this idyllic forest lake. Along the west shore and a forest meadow, the path leads back to the parking lot at Grundwassersee.

From the train station in Seeshaupt, the small loop around Frechensee first leads along the railway tracks to the edge of the town. But just behind the last houses, you find yourself in the middle of greenery and walk along quiet forest paths towards Frechensee. Slightly undulating, the path runs along the inaccessible east shore of the lake until it makes a sharp bend. Accompanied by a beautiful view of the lake, soon the open, sunny west shore is reached. Here walkers can for the first time get directly to the water and enjoy the lonely idyll of the remote lake on one of the benches. Partly through the forest, partly along the forest edge, the route finally leads back towards Seeshaupt.
