The 700-year-old former noble court and knight's seat in Forchtenstein was inhabited in the 15th and 16th centuries by the families of the Counts of Mattersdorf as well as the knights of the „Kynast“, „Häsib“, „Weispriach“ and „Rastenberg“. Large parts of the tower still exist and are enclosed by the present building. From 1627 the „Meier-Hof“ belonged to the county of Esterhazy.
Today, the courtyard represents a largely unchanged Renaissance building. With its picturesque south facade and the most diverse vaulted rooms inside, it offers an excellent backdrop for film productions, photo shoots, but also for seminars and private events. Individual rooms, or the entire property can be rented.
Today, the „Edelhof“ is privately owned by Ernst Achaz. He and the jazz clarinettist Herbert Swoboda are responsible for the fate of the listed walls. The unusual venue is known primarily for jazz concerts.
