The mighty Forchtenstein Castle is the landmark of the Rosalia-Neufelder Lake District, standing on a Dolomite rock, it greets its guests from afar.
Since 1626, it has been owned by the Esterhazy princes. It attracts over 100,000 guests each year through its numerous exhibitions and events. The historic site boasts one of the largest private weapon collections in Central Europe and additionally provides insight into the collecting passion of the first Prince Esterházy Paul. In the inner courtyard, visitors are surprised by the largest surface area secco wall paintings north of the Alps.
Visitors can choose from various guided tour options and thus find the best fit for their interests. Particularly popular, besides the castle ticket with a guided tour, is the "Night Watch" (various dates), where Franciscus Fabiankovich, the former castle captain of 1683, comes back to life for the night watch. Forchtenstein Castle is of great interest not only to history enthusiasts and museum lovers but also to families due to the numerous children's events that take place throughout the year. The "Family Draculade" and the "Dragon Festival" in autumn make Forchtenstein Castle an exciting experience for young and old alike.
The Easter market, the chestnut festival, and the Advent market complete the offerings at the castle.
The modern café-restaurant Grenadier invites you to enjoy regional cuisine in an authentic setting. The terrace offers a wonderful view of the Wulka Valley all the way to Lake Neusiedl.
Guided tours until the end of August (GERMAN) daily at 11.00 a.m., 1.00 p.m., and 4.00 p.m., Friday to Sunday additionally at 2.00 p.m.
With the Burgenland Card, the castle ticket (without a guided tour) is included. However, for an additional fee of € 6.00, you can book the guided tour as well.
