Black poplars thrive in floodplain ecosystems where water levels regularly rise and fall. In the Gemenc forest, seasonal flooding from the Danube creates ideal conditions for these trees, allowing them to grow rapidly and reach extraordinary sizes. The species is well adapted to these environments and can survive several months of inundation.
The tree stands along the Móricz-Duna branch, one of the many channels that wind through the Gemenc wetlands. Surrounded by dense riparian forest and wildlife-rich marshes, the Pörböly Titan has become a natural landmark and a favourite destination for hikers and nature lovers exploring the area.

The nearest major access point is the town of Baja, which is connected by regional bus and rail services to larger Hungarian cities such as Budapest and Pécs. From Baja, visitors should travel toward the Danube Bridge along Route 55. The recommended starting point is near the Potyka Inn at the foot of the bridge. From there, follow the green aspen leaf trail marker into the Gemenc forest. After a pleasant walk of approximately 4 kilometres, the path leads to the enormous Pörböly Titan tree along the Móricz-Danube branch.Coordinates
