Bóni-fok lies at the edge of the vast floodplain reserve of the Gemenc forests, one of the last remaining wilderness areas along the Danube. From here, the character of the trail changes completely. We enter a landscape ruled not by roads or villages, but by water, forest, and the rhythms of the river.
We begin by walking upstream along the Sió River until we cross the bridge at the Keselyűs ship lock. Beyond this point, we descend into the. Here, the trail winds through the forest, where the silence is broken only by birds and the movement of water. This landscape gives a vivid impression of the natural barrier the Danube once formed, hindering armies and travellers alike, yet never fully preventing their passage.
Eventually, we reach the information centre near Pörböly, a small settlement on the edge of the floodplain. The narrow-gauge railway that runs through the forest allows loggers to extract wood, as these remote woodlands were accessible only by river or rail.
