Spitzingsee Kirche St. Bernhard

Mitten im alpinen Hochgebirge, umrahmt von mächtigen Bergwäldern, befindet sich die Kirche St. Bernhard am Spitzingsee. Das katholische Gotteshaus gilt als die höchste Pfarrkirche Deutschlands. Hier finden Sie nicht nur ein ruhiges Plätzchen, an dem Sie sich für einen kleinen Moment zurückziehen können, sondern können nach einem Besuch der Kirche z.B. eine Wanderung durch die Natur unternehmen.

Begonnen hat die Geschichte der Kirche St. Bernhard mit einer Idee. Albert Obermayer, der ortsansässige Pfarrer, wollte direkt am Bergsee einen Ort erschaffen, an dem die Einheimischen und die Besucher nicht nur beten, sondern auch Andachten und Gottesdienste feiern konnten. Michael Kardinal von Faulhaber, Erzbischof von München und Freising, hörte davon und beschloss das Gebiet um den Spitzingsee zu besuchen.
Er  war so begeistert von der Umgebung, dass er einen Bauplatz suchte. Er entschied sich für das sogenannte Baumoos. Die Grundstücke kaufte er den dort ansässigen Almbauern ab und engagierte den Münchner Architekten Friedrich Haindl. Er fertigte die Baupläne für die Kirche an.

Trotz des politischen Drucks der Nationalsozialisten wurde der Grundstein für das Gebäude 1937 gelegt. Alle Baumaterialien der Kirche stammten aus der unmittelbaren Umgebung. Der katholischen Gemeinde und den Handwerkern wurde es untersagt, die Werkstoffe anderweitig zu beschaffen.

Die Einweihung fand am 23. Oktober 1938 statt. Gewidmet wurde das Gotteshaus dem Heiligen Bernhard von Menthone. Er ist der Beschützer der Almbauern, Bergsteiger und Skifahrer.

Das schönste Kunstwerk innerhalb des Kirchengebäudes befindet sich oberhalb des Hochaltars. Hier hängt ein Bild, das die Verklärung Jesu Christi auf dem Berg Tabor sowie weitere Szenen aus der Offenbarung darstellt. Übrigens –1942 wäre das gesamte Spitzinggebiet, zusammen mit der Kirche St. Bernhard, beinahe in den Fluten eines Stausees untergegangen. Zum Glück scheiterte das Projekt. Grund war der Widerstand der Einheimischen sowie der Ämter und der 2. Weltkrieg.
