Im Jahr 1756 wurde auf dem Bergsattel zwischen Herztal und Bottenau oberhalb der alten Kapelle die heutige  Wendelinuskapelle in bäuerlichem Rokokostil errichtet. Organisator des Baus war der Vogt des Ortenauer Landgerichts Appenweier Simon Bruder (1697-1768). Als Baumeister engagierte er den aus Au in Vorarlberg stammenden Johann Elmenreich (1695-1757). Die Bauerbeiten begannen am 6.Mai 1756 und dauerten 22 Wochen. Die Einweihung erfolgte am 19. Oktober 1757 durch Abt Karl. Die einschiffige Kapelle findet Ihren Abschluss in der Apsis. Die kniende Gestalt Wendelins krönt die Altrarretabel und ist einbezogen in das Chorapsidengemälde, das Decke, gewölbte Chorwand und Langhaus verbindet. Schöpfer der Malereien ist Johann Pfunner (1713-1788). Ein Halbrund aus der Fassadenmitte ragender Aufbau trägt den zweistufigen, mit Voluten verzierten Turmaufbau, auf dem die Kolossalstatue des hl. Wendelin steht mit den Weidetieren Pferd, Schaf, Ochse, Schwein und Ziege zu seinen Füßen.
