Jaskyňa Mŕtvych Netopierov sa nachádza uprostred Slovenska v centrálnej časti hrebeňa Nízkych Tatier v Ďumbierskom vysokohorskom krase (1 750 m n.m.). Relatívne drobný, hlboko zavrásnený vápencový masív Kozích Chrbtov s dĺžkou 2 km a šírkou len 300 m obsahuje vo svojich útrobách množstvo chodieb v doposiaľ známych 14 poschodiach a dvoch paralerných vetvách. Najväčší podzemný priestor – Bystrický dóm, sa nachádza na 7 poschodí v hĺbke 180 m, a jeho objem dosahuje 52 500 m3
