Ďumbier and Chopok from Lúčky
Ďumbier, at an altitude of 2043 m above sea level, is the highest peak of the Low Tatras. However, the ascent to the summit is not among the most demanding.
The route is smooth, complemented by amazing views on both sides of the Low Tatras. Liptov, Spiš, Horehronie, the Western and High Tatras, and the Slovak Ore Mountains are spread out before you. We recommend the route along the green trail from Lúčky through Široká valley and Krúpove saddle to Ďumbier (2043 m above sea level), then returning on the red trail running along the ridge through Demänovské saddle to Chopok (2024 m above sea level), and subsequently down the blue trail through Luková to the Mikuláš hut.
Author’s recommendation
You can rest and recharge at the Kamenna hut below Chopok or at the Rotunda Restaurant, which are located roughly halfway along the route. You can shorten the descent from Chopok by taking the cable car within the Jasná resort. On the route itself, you can refresh yourself either at the Kamenna hut or the Rotunda Restaurant below Chopok, or during the descent in the Lukova area. It is also possible to refresh and spend the night at the Štefánik hut, which is about half an hour off our route.
