Zvolen Castle has been the town centre since time immemorial.
It sits majestically on the banks of the River Slatina. The castle is open all year round, except for Mondays, Tuesdays and public holidays. The Gothic - Renaissance castle was built in the 14th century and served the Hungarian kings. It later became a protector defending the town in the battle against the Turks. The castle currently hosts the Slovak National Gallery. Although it has a very rich and turbulent history, it is a very pleasant and peaceful atmosphere inside. Zvolen Castle is an excellent tip for a family trip which you can combine with exploring the centre of this Central Slovak royal town.
