This rarely traveled and exceptionally challenging route to the highest mountain in North Africa and thus also Morocco is considered THE mountaineering highlight in the Toubkal massif. Even the “solitary” ascent to the night camp the day before testifies to the remoteness and the extremely low traffic of summit aspirants in this region.

With an elevation of over 4,000 metres, Morocco's Jebel Toubkal is the highest peak in both the Atlas Mountains and North Africa and makes for a great few days away from the bustle of nearby Marrakesh.

The solitude up here sometimes makes you dream strange things, or are the howling of the jackals and the “talking” whistling of the wind through the rock crevices real? After several days in this region, you will get used to it and approach the natural paradise presented here with new eyes.

The walls above the deep Aint Mansour gorge appear intimidating. However, there is actually a lot of easily passable terrain between the steep drops. We undertook this tour on 14.03.2026. It initially leads off-trail, ascending along a cutting stream bed up to one of the summit peaks above the gorge. The descent takes place on the opposite side towards the village of Tamsaout.

South of Tizgut begins a distinctive ridge that runs eastwards and has its highest point above the Prophet Pass. The ridge can be reached just east of the first steep towers and followed up to the highest point with engaging scrambling, mostly staying on the ridge crest.

A short tour to a distinctive small summit by the road. Suitable for rest days or uncertain weather. Either as a scramble through the ramps in the north face or easier as a short hike via the marked descent path.
