This scenic circular hike in the heart of the Tannheimer Mountains offers everything a hiker’s heart desires: challenging ascents, high-altitude trails with spectacular views, two summit experiences, and a picturesque descent past two mountain lakes back down into the valley. Since the direct traverse at the Schochenspitze is closed, this route leads safely down via the Schochensattel. You’ll need to be in good shape and have plenty of stamina—the last 5 km can be quite a slog. If you’d like, you can take the gondola and the bus to make both the ascent and the return trip easier.
