We start at the parking lot and walk along the Ostrach to then cross it on the right via a wooden bridge. Continue along the water to the Coach Museum on the left side. It is worth seeing. We continue past the rockfall of 1964 and its memorial plaque until a farm track on the right and the ascent to Breitenberg begins. We follow it until it turns into a meadow path shortly before Alpe Wank, which is grazed with livestock during the summer. Further up into a high plateau and an increasingly rocky path to the summit of Breitenberg. There we deserve a rest. From the summit, the descent from the Rotspitz is also clearly visible, and if there is a lot of remaining snow there, it makes no sense to take the Hohe Gänge routes; the direct descent into Häbelesgund or the return route as an ascent are better options. If the check is positive, we go to the fork and take the left path up to the Hohe Gänge. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required even though ladders support us in mastering the difficulty of the ridge. On the Heubatspitze another break is advisable before continuing to the Rotspitze, which requires us one more short ascent. We can look down into the Retterschwanger Valley towards Mitterhaus. The descent into Häbelesgund is rocky and steep but well-marked. Refreshing drinks for a fee are sometimes stocked in the shelter there during hot summers. We continue to descend on a wider path towards the Retterschwanger Valley and circle around the Breitenberg on the descent back to the starting point.
