Welcome to the Frederick Simms Hut
Thanks to the dedication of numerous members, the hut below the Wetterspitze is a gem and a model of environmental protection, having been awarded the Environmental Seal of Quality
The Simms Hut is a popular starting point for alpine tours. This simple yet cozy mountain hut offers everything a mountaineer needs—modest comfort and plenty of charm. In 2002, it received the Alpine Clubs’ Environmental Seal of Approval for its renovation, which was carried out consistently in accordance with ecological criteria. The hut’s exposed location is nothing short of spectacular: high above the Sulzeltal, a side valley of the Lech, on a small ledge below the Holzgauer Wetterspitze.
Those who want to experience the Lechtal mountains off-season—in fall or early summer—will particularly appreciate the small winter room. Here, however, you’ll have to carry your own spaghetti and red wine up the mountain, build a fire, and cook by candlelight. This isn’t for pampered alpine tourists, but “real mountaineers” feel right at home here!
For several years now, the Frederick Simms Hut has been part of the Lechtal High Trail, though it’s rarely visited by “High Trail hikers.” It serves as an important base camp for the Stuttgart Trail, which has been in existence for some time.
