Die Hütte unter der Wetterspitze ist dank des Einsatzes zahlreicher Mitglieder ein Schmuckstück und Vorzeigeobjekt in Sachen Umweltschutz ausgezeichnet mit dem Umweltgütesiegel
Die Simmshütte ist ein beliebter Ausgangspunkt für alpine Touren. Die einfache, aber gemütliche Berghütte bietet alles, was man als Bergsteiger braucht - bescheidenen Komfort und viel Ambiente. Für ihre konsequent nach ökologischen Kriterien erfolgte Sanierung erhielt sie im Jahr 2002 das Umweltgütesiegel der Alpenvereine. Fast schon spektakulär ist die ausgesetzte Lage der Hütte: hoch über dem Sulzeltal, einem Seitental des Lech, auf einem kleinen Vorsprung unterhalb der Holzgauer Wetterspitze.
Wer die Lechtaler Bergwelt außerhalb der Saison, im Herbst oder Frühsommer, erleben möchte, der weiß besonders den kleinen Winterraum zu schätzen. Hier heißt es allerdings, Spaghetti und Rotwein selbst hochzutragen, Feuer zu machen und bei Kerzenschein zu kochen. Für verwöhnte Alpintouristen ist das nichts, aber „echte Bergsteiger*innen“ fühlen sich hier sehr wohl!
Seit einigen Jahren ist die Frederick-Simms-Hütte in den Lechtaler Höhenweg eingegliedert, wird aber wenig von den „Höhenweglern“ besucht. Sie ist ein wichtiger Stützpunkt des Stuttgarter Weges, welcher seit einiger Zeit existiert.
