Der Frieden von St. Germain 1919 und die damit verbundene neue Grenzziehung bedeute schließlich das Aus für die Pforzheimer Hütte, die in der Folgezeit als Posten italienischer Grenzwächter und Zöllner diente. Später diente das Haus dem Sezione Milano des CAI als alpiner Stützpunkt und die Pforzheimer Hütte wurde zum Rifugio Rasass umbenannt.
1964 ist das Haus innen ausgebrannte. 1998 gab der Staat Italien die ca. 36 Hütte vom OeAV und DAV an die Autonome Provinz Südtirol zurück und die Alte Pforzheimer Hütte wurde 2009 unter denkmalschutz gestellt. Ab 2009 hat der Förderverein „CUNFIN", die dem Verfall preisgegeben Hütte wurde umfangreich instandgesetzt und renovirt. Das Denkmal geschütztes hochalpines Gebäude der europäischen Geschichte wird vom Verein Cunfin in Mals im Untergeschoss zum Museum ausgebaut. Am 20. September 2015 findet die erste Ausstellung „Zollfreie Zone!?“ über den Schmuggel statt. Die Ausstellung auf 2256 m Höhe bildet den Auftakt für die zukünftige Nutzung der Hütte als Ort für Kunst, Kultur und Geschichte.
2024 pachtete das Forum Prävention, Bozen die Hütte und schlägt ein neues Kapitel für die Alte Pforzheimer Hütte auf. Mit dem Konzept, ein soziokulturelles Angebot für junge Menschen in Südtirol und der lokale Umgebung anzubieten. Die Fachstelle Jugend des Forum Prävention übernimmt die Leitung der neu sanierten Selbstversorgerhütte.
