The Guardian of the Ostallgäu’s Royal CastlesTowering over the Füssen region as if in the “front row,” the Säuling is undoubtedly an (East) Allgäu mountain, yet alpine geography—quite rightly—assigns it the position of the western cornerpost of the Ammergau Alps. As the region’s alpine landmark, the Säuling is more popular than almost any other mountain in this range, a fact that may be due not only to its striking, rocky profile but also to its immediate surroundings and their regal history. After all, Neuschwanstein—Ludwig II’s fairytale castle at the foot of the Säuling—ranks very high on the list of Germany’s most famous sights. For the vast majority of tourists from all over the world, the mountain thus serves merely as a picturesque backdrop; we mountaineers, however, eagerly scale its peaks. There are two routes suitable for this, the core sections of which can even be combined by circling the adjacent Pilgerschrofen: the northern ascent from Hohenschwangau and the southern route from Pflach in Tyrol via the Säulinghaus.

Hier mein Video dazu: http://youtu.be/e1PwSB5hCx0
