Between the castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau begins the stimulating ascent around the forbidding Pilgerschrofen to the towering Säulinghaus. Uplifting along the way is the deep view of Alpsee, Weißensee, Hopfensee, Forggensee, and the Lech town of Füssen.
We start at the bus stop at the entrance to Hohenschwangau, 800 m, and walk uphill towards Alpsee. At the Hotel Alpenstuben, we take the shady footpath leading towards Bleckenau, crossing a street at the Jugend viewpoint. We continue along the water pipeline path through quiet mixed mountain forest. At a forest path junction, we observe the signpost "Säuling." In the clearing of Älpeles, the trail diverges to the very impressive Säuling. The path zigzags upward in an energy-saving manner to the Wildsulzhütte, 1410 m, in the Pilgerkar.There, we take the path to the Pilgerschrofen, whose bright limestone pinnacles appear above us. Between the last mountain spruces, we go to the forest boundary at the foot of the jagged ridge from Säuling to Pilgerschrofen. Shortly after, we must accept a small elevation loss crossing a landslide zone at a ridge.
