Isenthal is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Uri, located on the west side of Lake Uri in the Isental valley. The village of Isenthal, in its own spelling, lies in a secluded and forested side valley at an altitude of about 780 meters above sea level, surrounded by high mountains and traversed by the Isentalerbach stream. The village of Isenthal is located at a point where the Isental splits into several valley extensions. A winding and narrow road leads up to the village of Isenthal from the settlement of Isleten in the neighboring municipality of Bauen, so you can also reach the pristine village by car. The highest place in the municipality of Isenthal is the Alp Gitschenen at an altitude of 1,550 meters. In the neighboring Chlital, you can reach by car or a half-hour walk from Isenthal the valley station of an aerial cableway. From the mountain station, numerous hikes ranging from easy to medium to challenging are possible, for example to Gitschen and Musenalp, onto Rinderstöckli or Schartihöreli.
