Outing with a dog in Ariège

The Transhumance Trail is a 4-day cross-border itinerary between Ariège and Andorra. Horses, cows, sheep and their guardians - shepherds and herding dogs - are all part of your hike. Here, the mountains are shared.

Established in 1985, the Cathar Trail connects Port-la-Nouvelle (Aude) to Foix (Ariège) at the foot of the Pyrenees. This trail is one of the most iconic in the Pyrenees.

Starting from the comtal city, the Saint-Sauveur path is probably the most appreciated by the people of Fuxéens. And for good reason: the breathtaking view of the castle and the old town is absolutely splendid.

Magnificent landscapes will accompany you throughout your route, up to the final cirque of the Campuls cabin.

Located in the town of Aston in Ariège, this is a Natura 2000 site where flora and fauna are protected. The surrounding woods and forests consist mainly of deciduous trees, conifers, and hook pines (Pinus cambro). A family-friendly hike with no technical difficulties, though there are a few scree sections before reaching the ponds. On the return trip, there is an option to take a longer alternate route to the Ruhle mountain hut, which is open until September 30 of this year. This hike requires a certain level of physical fitness, as you’ll need to adjust your footing to the uneven terrain. The risk of accidents is low; this is a mid-mountain route.
