Author of this page
In addition to hikers, mountain bikers, and sport climbers, via ferrata enthusiasts have also discovered Lake Garda as a wonderful sports region. Around Riva del Garda on the northern shore of the lake, there are some of the oldest and most classic routes in the Alps. Some sections of the routes were already established as supply paths for troops during the First World War.

Forecast for Garda Trentino

10-day forecast

You can dive into this time with an exciting and promising tour to the Cima Rocca. Right next door, however, you can climb to the top of the Cima S.A.T. using the longest ladders in the southern Alpine region. Those with a lot of experience in via ferrata and good fitness can try the Che Guevara, a 1400 m long challenge on Monte Casale that guarantees beads of sweat on your forehead. Or how about a boisterous climb through a narrow gorge of the Rio Sallagoni? For fans of exposed rocky paths, steep iron ladders, and thrilling climbing on wire ropes, there is much to experience at Lake Garda!

Schöner, aber auch sehr anspruchsvoller Steig. Vom Gipfel erreicht man in ca. 20 Minuten die Rocol-Bar in Ranzo. Eine Einkehr ist sehr zu empfehlen.

I would think this is harder in worse weather conditions than when I was there with my girlfriend in warm and sunny weather. As Via Ferrata's go this is a scenic and slightly unique one close to the waterfall. As I've read in other reviews there are sections where the grip would be perilous in wet or cold conditions, and those sections have mostly natural holds and holes in the rock. I would therefore not recommend this one for unexperienced climbers of Via Ferrata's. I've seen this route described as a C-level route, but if unexperienced or in worse weather I would certainly call this a D-level route.

Beautiful and stunning as the tour is discribed as. Simpel to reach, nice view and not as challenging as other things. The desend from the station at top can be directly be made over the ski piste.

Absolut empfehlenswert!

It is certainly a very nice route! However, despite my considerable experience, I find it quite challenging. There are route descriptions that give a difficulty of C. This may be appropriate, but today it was all wet (which is probably often the case except in a dry summer), so for me the difficulty is more like D. You have to climb in the rock several times, and the wet rock makes this difficult for both hands and feet. So for beginners this is an absolute no-go! For smaller children it is extremely difficult as there are many occasions where you need to have enough arm length to reach the rock or the steel rope. Children may need to be belayed. Also be aware that because of the difficulties, people are quite slow. So there will be repeated stops, so it is important to have a self-belay sling to be able to rest in different positions.
